Exercise Therapy is the most effective pain and injury treatment or prevention technique that I have come across in over 20 years in the fitness industry. On its own or in addition to your exercise regime it achieves excellent results and will ease many annoying pains as well as take your exercise up a level.
The process is as follows:
1) Assessment to establish what may be directly or indirectly causing the issue.
2) Record the results from the assessment (1-10) for discomfort, weakness or instability.
3) Perform simple, non strenuous exercises and stretches within the session targeting the recorded results.
4) Re-assess and see, in the same session, the immediate increase in strength, stability and reduced pain.
5) Do your home-work or adjust your training accordingly.
Sometimes aches and pains that have been bothering people for years can be identified and sorted out surprisingly easily. Other times there may be 2 or 3 layers to work through but in most cases I've worked through there has been a positive result exceeding expectations.
I was lucky enough to work with a Canadian team "Exercise Therapy Association" set up by Brendan Fox. I attended courses in London, Berlin and Cambridge to achieve the trio of Lower body mastery, Upper body mastery and Core mastery qualifications.
